Fruit of the Holy Spirit // Goodness

Lord of all power and might, the author and giver of all good things: Graft in our hearts the love of your Name; increase in us true religion; nourish us with all goodness; and bring forth in us the fruit of good works; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God for ever and ever. Amen

“For she is the reflection of eternal light, the spotless mirror of the power of God, the image of his goodness.” Wisdom 7:26

I have an approximately 20-year-old prayer card with a beautiful image of the Blessed Mother displayed in my bathroom. The backside of the prayer card displays the Memorare, which is a nice daily prayer, but the placement of this card on the bathroom mirror is not accidental, it’s an everyday reminder. I see the Blessed Mother and I remind myself of what my mom goals should really be.

Now let me say that being a mom to three daughters four and under is challenging- but it’s also beautiful. I love watching them grow and sprout these giant personalities that they will undoubtedly carry through their lives. I love watching their eyes light up when they learn something new, or read a new book, or see an animal at the zoo, but these aren’t the moments that are trying, these aren’t the moments that I need that prayer card.

I need it when it’s 5:30 and I’m coming home from a long day at work, and the girls are all crying and/or screaming for some reason. They all need me, they all want me and all I want to do is take a breather and sit down with a nice slice of pizza and show on Netflix. (I don’t drink wine, so bring on the comfort food) It’s time like these I try to remember that slightly bent prayer card with that gorgeous photo on it and remind myself that Mary is our ultimate goal.

She is our Mother, and she knew the trials, the joys and ultimately the heartbreak of motherhood. She did it with grace, with the ultimate display of courage. It isn’t easy. Motherhood isn’t easy, being a wife isn’t easy, being a child of God isn’t easy, but we are guided by the ultimate light. We are guided by Mary herself. Lean on her, know that she will always give you the power you need to guide your life back to the Lord and your true purpose.

The MemorareREMEMBER, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy help, or sought thy intercession was left unaided. Inspired with this confidence, I fly to thee, O Virgin of virgins, my Mother; to thee do I come; before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in thy mercy hear and answer me. Amen.

What daily reminder to pray to our Mother Mary do you have?
