Saints Among Us // Striving for Sainthood

For all the saints who from their labors rest, who Thee by faith before the world confessed; Thy name, Jesus, be forever blest. Alleluia, Alleluia!

Thou wast their Rock, their Fortress, and their Might;Thou, Lord, their Captain in the well-fought fight; Thou, in the darkness drear, their one true Light. Alleluia, Alleluia!

“Strive to enter through the narrow door; for many, I tell you, will try to enter and will not be able.” Luke 13:24

What does striving for sainthood look like to you in our everyday life?

“Keep alert, stand firm in your faith, be courageous, be strong. Let all that you do be done in love.”1 Corinthians 16:13-14

What does it mean to be a saint? Not everyone can get stigmata or bilocate or levitate. Not all of us are called to become a nun. Most of us are just ordinary women. But so what? We can still be saints! Why? Because we are all called to be holy.

So what does it mean to be holy then? We need to begin with prayer, always. Through prayer, we can remember that God always comes first. We can pray for our families. We can offer our prayers to people in need, and not just during tragic events. We can pray for our enemies and those who are in need of conversion. Whenever we offer our mornings, pray the Divine Mercy Chaplet and the Rosary, celebrate Mass every Sunday and go to Confession at least once a month, we are taking a step towards becoming a saint.

We can strive for sainthood through our actions. Everyday gives us the chance to practice the virtues of faith, hope, love, prudence, fortitude, justice, and temperance. Whenever we show kindness towards others, when we say kind words that someone needs to hear, when we listen to somebody in need of help, that’s a step towards holiness. Whenever we do one of the corporal or spiritual works of mercy, we are becoming holy.

“Not all of us can do great things, but we can do small things with great love.”- Mother Teresa

Strive to be holy, sisters in Christ. It’s easier than you think.
