Deuteronomy 32:43 1 Kings 8:23
“Exult with him, you heavens, bow to him, all you divine beings! For he will avenge the blood of his servants, take vengeance on his foes;He will requite those who hate him,and purge his people’s land.” Deuteronomy 32:43
You know one of my favorite things about the Lord, is that He isn’t selfish. He never wants to keep everything for Himself. I mean think of it like Santa Clause, by all means I know that Jesus is not Santa, but bear with me for a minute. Could you imagine if Santa had all those gifts and decided not to give them away, but just keep them for himself? Could you imagine if God had all of this mercy and grace and decided to just keep it to Himself? Decided that it wasn’t worth it to be given away, or to be given to those He loved.
Could you imagine if when we got baptized the water washed over us and nothing happened- no renewal of the Holy Spirit or graces poured upon… all of a sudden you were just wet. No, no, no. If you haven’t learned by now I feel like I am the queen of analogies. I always have to equate what I am trying to understand to something bigger, or to something more realistic. So, take a second and think of a garden. When you plant a seed you dig a hole, bury the seed, cover it up and water it. Then you keep watering it. Even when you have beautiful flowers growing…you continue to water, so you can enjoy the beauty and the gift you were given.
The Lord’s mercy is the water in the garden; He continues to pour His water over us so that we can grow, so we can flourish, and so that we can blossom in Him. We continue to grow, flourish, and blossom with the help of His mercy so that we can be the beautiful flowers - so that we can be a gift to others… so that they can see our beauty.
You see, the Lord gives us His mercy, but it is our duty to show it to others. It is our duty to live that mercy out to the fullest. It is our job to make sure that the mercy that is poured over us at Baptism isn't wasted.
“Give ear, O heavens, and let me speak;
let the earth hear the words of my mouth!”

“He said, “LORD, God of Israel, there is no God like you in heaven above or on earth below;
you keep covenant and love toward your servants who walk before you with their whole heart”

When we put our whole heart into it, when we serve the Lord, when we take the mercy that He has given us and share it with those around us. This is when we are living our covenant with the Lord to the fullest. So, are you going to let yourself grow, or are you going to let yourself brown, burnout and become too watered down. The more dead we become, the further we are from God, but if we allow ourselves to be watered and to soak in the mercy of God, we are allowing ourselves to share it with others.
So, soak it in or get overwatered. It is your choice. His mercy flows; you chose how you want to grow with it.
