Malachi Day 6 // Foreshadowing

Malachi 3:1-24 Revelation 20:12 Isaiah 40: 3 Zechariah 1:3-4 Luke 1:78-79

I never really liked foreshadowing in books when I was growing up. honestly, I still think that I am not the biggest fan of it, but rather now… I think it is really cool and I get super excited when I spot it. I realize that most times you don’t see the foreshadowing of a story until you get to the end, but because we have the beautiful gift of the Liturgy of the Word-we already know the ending to expect.

We live in a society where things are ever changing and where the truth is constantly being challenged. Even though we are constantly being tested and pushed to give in and not live the truth out, and to give the people what they want to hear… the Lord never changes.

For I, the LORD, do not change,
and you, sons of Jacob, do not cease to be.6
Since the days of your ancestors you have turned aside
from my statutes and have not kept them.
Return to me, that I may return to you,
says the LORD of hosts.
But you say, “Why should we return?”7c
Can anyone rob God? But you are robbing me!
And you say, “How have we robbed you?”
Of tithes and contributions!8d

We are sincerely robbing the Lord of our covenant, as stated yesterday and the day before, with him. We are consistently turning away from Him, but He consistently calls us back and asks us to return to him. He loves us so dearly and wants us to be with him in heaven with Him, that He is willing to look past our mistakes. He is willing to look past our denial of him, our denial of the ruth, or mediocrity, our giving in, and our settling. He is willing to look past all of these things to allow us into the Kingdom of God and be with him, and wants to continuously pour blessings on us.

Put me to the test, says the LORD of hosts,
And see if I do not open the floodgates of heaven for you,
and pour down upon you blessing without measure!

Lastly, this is the foreshadowing of the Lord’s coming. We never know the day or time… so we should be preparing for that. We should be serving the Lord and keeping our covenant with Him, so that in the end we are with Him.

For the day is coming, blazing like an oven,
when all the arrogant and all evildoers will be stubble,
And the day that is coming will set them on fire,
leaving them neither root nor branch,
says the LORD of hosts.
But for you who fear my name, the sun of justice
will arise with healing in its wings;*
And you will go out leaping like calves from the stall20k
and tread down the wicked;
They will become dust under the soles of your feet,
on the day when I take action, says the LORD of hosts.21

What are you doing to keep your covenant and prepare for the Messenger of the covenant?
