She was sewing industriously, and yet seemed lost in deep contemplation. “What are you thinking of?” the young Sister asked. “I am meditating on the ‘Our Father,’” Therese answered. “It is so sweet to call God, ‘Our Father!’”… and tears glistened in her eyes. (Story of a Soul, 184-185)
It is so sweet to call God, “Our Father.”
St. Therese of Lisieux challenges me like no other saint. The depth of her love is insane. How many times have I prayed the “Our Father” prayer with haste, not stopping one moment to really reflect on what I am saying?
When we pray this prayer – we are doing a remarkable thing, we claim whose we are! And that’s a pretty big deal. Our father is the Alpha and Omega, the Creator of the Heavens and the Earth, the lover of our souls, our peace, and our joy.
Whatever kind of relationship you have with your own earthly fathers, hear this my dear sisters – Our Heavenly Father’s love trumps them all, for His love is perfect! What is a most wondrous thing!
Today, take time to pray the “Our Father” prayer slowly and meaningfully with a heart full of love for your daddy in heaven. Ask Him to teach you what it means to be His daughter, and just how good of a gift that is.
