The entire book of Job
So far in our Lenten series, the desert has been nothing but scorching torture. Where we're stranded, tested, and forced to wait.
But the Holy Spirit is very much alive and present in the desert. There is grace and mercy and forgiveness in seasons of extreme droughts in our lives. It's in the fires that He is glorified.
Yesterday, we talked about Job's heart-wrenching trials. I invite you to read the entire book of Job, and you will see the grace of our loving God amidst the fires Job endured.
It reminds me of a story that a deacon from my church told me about the silversmith and his silver.
A silversmith holds the silver in the middle of the fire where the flames are the hottest, so all its impurities are burned away.
He knows when to remove the silver from the fire only when he sees his reflection in it. What is produced in the end is of course marvelous and beautiful.
Until then, he holds it the whole time, keeping a close eye, just waiting.
When I lost my two siblings and my parents divorced, I felt this way.
Even in the raging fires of life, God is holding on to me the whole time, wanting to see His reflection, His heart, His love ingrained permanently in me.
I pray He does. I pray that no matter how violent the fire gets, how much is taken away, how little I have left, I will still be a daughter of the King.
And, like the silversmith's silver, reflecting my Creator's amazing grace and love.
