There is a true and utter need in our hearts and souls for sanctifying grace. But what it is it? There are two types of grace in our lives; sanctifying and actual. Sanctifying grace is grace that stays in our soul, makes us holy, and is the ability to share in a life with God-which should be our daily goal. Sanctifying grace though isn’t just given to us on a silver platter when we are born, but it is given to us when we are baptized!
"Unless a man be born again of water and the Holy Ghost, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God." - John 3:5
Some of us this happens right after we are born, some of us at a young age, and some of us later in life. When we are baptized all of our original sin is washed away, at that very moment sanctifying grace is put into our soul for the very first time.
But you see where does the need for this come from? If its given to us then its ours to keep right? Wrong, you see like any good gift it can be taken away. We need sanctifying grace to share in life with God, to hear what he wants from us, to see where he wants us to go, to be able to follow God, we need that sanctifying grace. Sanctifying grace is the ability to get through the gates in heaven and to be there. This beautiful gift of a ticket to heaven though can easily be taken away when we mortal sin and sin against God. Sanctifying Grace is also something we can sustain and grow in our souls.
“But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ." - 2 Peter 3:18
We can grow this sanctifying grace in us by going to confession, going to mass, praying and practicing the sacraments. When we grow this grace we are enabling ourselves to stay in heaven, allowing ourselves the privilege of being with God in heaven. We aren’t even allowed through the gates of heaven without sanctifying grace, so by growing this sanctifying grace and consistently working to make sure that we are in a state of grace, so that we can ensure our spots in heaven.
So why is there a need for sanctifying grace? Because that need is your ticket to salvation. So we need to be working at it everyday so that we can be with God in heaven. He originally gave us the gift, the least we can do is learn to make it grow and not abuse a gift that was given to us.
