The Our Father 

“Our Father who art in Heaven. Hallowed be thy name. Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.”

The ‘Our Father’ prayer is one that you have probably said more times than you can count, but have you ever stopped and taken a second to think about what it means? Have you given yourself the opportunity to take a step back and ask the Lord what His will is behind us reciting this prayer? The beautiful thing about this prayer is that it came directly from Jesus’ mouth! How many prayers do we still say today that can boast of the same origin?

The purpose of this study is to take a deeper look into that prayer that we say so often, but don’t always think about while we pray it. For me, the words “Thy will be done” always stick out to me and have weight in my heart because so often it isn’t God’s will that I want done, but my own! Can you relate to that in anyway? Now I am trying to get better at not only praying the Our Father, but having sincerity behind my words because, if this is one of the most perfect prayers we can pray, then why shouldn’t it receive all of my heart and investment when I do pray it?

Our hope for this study is for you to take a few moments each day and really look at what the Lord is trying to say to you through this prayer. By choosing to dive deeper, we allow the Lord to transform our hearts so that we are not only reciting the prayer, but that we are putting our whole heart, mind, body, and soul into it everytime we pray it.
